Audio Track Question

Bandwidth Bandit wrote on 4/27/2008, 6:50 PM
Can anyone tell me how to seperate an audio track from the video track on an imported DV file? I would like to keep the audio track static while editing the video track. I don't want the audio track affected while I am changing the video track so I figure if I can seperate the two (export the audio) then make my changes and import the audio back into the project. Can anyone help with this?

You don't need to edit the audio with the video -- just ungroup it and edit the video as you wish.

Or, alternately, you can copy the audio to a separate track and use it as you wish, simple as pie.

I guess my next question is how do you ungroup it? That is what I want to do but have never been able to ffigure it out.

Never mind I figured it out and you were right, simple as pie. I just didn't know what I wanted to do until you told me. Thanks for the insight.

Glad to point you in the right direction.
Sometimes the most perplexing beginner questions with Vegas have the simplest solutions. That's part of the beauty of this application.

Let me ask you one more question, is there a way to export the audio to different audio editor other than the one Sony sells to go with Vegas?

Options -> Preferences -> Audio -> Preferred Audio Editor

No promises that a 3rd party editor will work as seamlessly with Vegas as Sound Forge, however.

do you know how to fix the problem I am having where the audio is muted when I render it? When I preview it in Sony Movie Studio Platinum it is fine, but when I render it its muted.

I just figured this out when using the demo version of Pro8.
There are templates when you render. The default template says No Audio Track. There is another MP2 Template higher in the list which includes the audio.

I hope this is a correct answer. I've got a total of 2 hours on the demo, and I don't do well with online manuals, so I just doped this out for myself.
