Audio track won't play

I'm doing an audio only project. I record a live guitar track and it shows up fine but when I try to play the project the cursor either jumps way ahead of the audio clip or it simply doesn't play at all. Under "Audio Device" my Xonar Essence STX shows as "cmasiopPCIX" for some reason instead of Xonar Essence STX like it does in my other programs. If I switch the Audio Device to Microsoft Sound Mapper then I can play the project but obviously that isn't a solution. This is driving me nuts. Any ideas? Same thing happens if I record a MIDI track.

Do you have the device selected in preferences? Check for new drivers from the hardware manufacturer. If nothing works try ASIO4all a free driver.

Are you so sure VegasPro8 is compatible with Win7/64 ? - VegasPro10 release notes are the first to mention Win7/64 as a recommended OS.....
Also, have you tried different ASIO Buffer sizes?
