Audio+Video for Bluray

Daveco2 wrote on 7/20/2008, 4:51 PM
Ok, I'm sure this is an easy one for the rest of you; but it's taking too long for me to figure out.
I'm ready to burn my first BD-R.
I rendered separate AC-3 audio and MPEG-2 video files from VegasPro8b.
How do I merge these two files so they play simultaneously and in synch from a single DVDA5 button?

Thanks,

Dave

Looking it up in the manual (it has a TOC and an Index) is faster than waiting for someone to transcribe it for you. ;-)

Lou,

Thanks for the insight, but I've already been through the manual.

Maybe it would help if I made my questions more specific.

Starting with separate audio and video streams, should I mux them together in order to bring a single file into DVDA?

If I do mux them together, would I lose any resolution?

Is it true that a single file is required to get both streams to play simultaneously from a single button?

I'm new at this, so I would appreciate it if some expert here could give me some short pointers. No need to waste a lot of time on extensive prose.

Thanks again,

Dave

Hi Dave,

You should import the video and audio stream separately into DVDA, the muxing is done by DVDA at compile time. If you just want to prepare a single file without a menu (DVDA does create a BDMV structure though) do the following:

1. Start DVDA and from the File menu choose New.
2. Select Single Movie, fill in the other parameters (Disc, Video and Audio format) and press OK.
3. Select your video file from the Open Media panel.
4. Drag your audio file from the Explorer window and drop it on the preview window.
5. Press the Preview button under the menu bar to see that the file is played correctly.
6. Press the Make Blu-ray Disc button to the right of it when OK.

That's all.

Thanks Lou,

I've already done single movies.

What I'd like to do now is construct menus as I have in all my previous DVD projects. Of course, those projects used single source files.

The problem now for Bluray is that I can't get a single button play the video and audio streams simultaneously. Instead, DVDA makes one button for the video and another separate button for the audio. The only solution I see is to use an application like tsmuxer and then bring the muxed single file into DVDA which then gets linked to a single button. But that doesn't seem right. The muxing function should be internal to DVDA. Finally, does the muxing reduce resolution or cause DVDA to do a recompression with loss of resolution?

Another question is that when the audio and video files are muxed together, do they go out of synch if the files are too long?

The VegasPro manual says to render a separate video and audio stream to author Bluray; and the DVDA manual doesn't say anything about how to put these two files together, unless I'm missing something fundamental here.

Dave,

The problem seems to be that you are creating separate buttons for video and audio.

When you use the same name for video and audio and put the files in the same folder, the audio is loaded automatically when you select the video file.

To solve the present problem double-click the video file and drop the audio file on the preview window. Or click Track Media under Media Properties and add the audio file from there. You can thereafter delete the superfluous button linking to the audio file.

Lou,

Just got home and used your tips with great success.

The Bluray video on my 50 inch plasma are absolutely stunning. This must be heaven.

Thanks,

Dave
