Audio/Video question

Here's my scenario.

I have a video clip with audio on the timeline. When you unlock the two and slide the audio out of sync from the video it changes color showing you that you are out of sync and you also see a + or - number showing how much it is out. This is a wonderful feature.

Now I'm deleting the audio from the video clip and replacing it with audio from a portable audio recorder. Once I sync the audio to the video clip I would like to have the same indication I had with the original audio clip.

The only way I know how to accomplish this is by re-rendering out the video clip with the new audio.

Does any one know an easier way?

Longer answer, add as a take and use the Slip Edit using the Alt key to drag.

After you have synced the recorder audio to the camera audio, Group them together. Then when you slide the recorder audio, the camera audio will also slide, and the video track will turn pink. Don't delete the camera audio, just mute it and minimize the track.

I agree with dxdy.

IMHO, it is much easier to sync audio to video if you leave the original audio and add the new audio as a separate track. Matching the waveforms of the two audio tracks is easier if you zoom in (but not too much) Of course check your work with the video also.

Obviously you mute the original track.

Once synced you can group the new audio track with the original track and you will have the "out of sync" feature with the new audio.

Hi Jerry,

I use the free program tsMuxerGUI to replace the audio in a file without re-rendering. The program is easy to use and very quick. I find I need to create the new audio file to be 2 frames early in order for it to be correctly synchronized in the new output file.
