Audio/Video Sync Problems

I have a few MPEG-2 files that I've edited in Vegas 5.0. The resulting
edited version plays fine when previewed in Vegas. However, when I
re-render it into MPEG-2 and AC-3 or WAV, then import into DVD
Architect 2.0, the audio and video are out of sync. It starts out OK,
but as you get farther into the clip, the audio gets farther behind the
video until it is about 2 seconds off at the 30-minute mark.

I've followed the instructions in the help file exactly and can't seem
to figure out why this is happening. I'm using the MainConcept MPEG-2
with the DVD Architect setting for the video, and I've tried almost
every possible AC-3 or WAV format setting for the audio. Is there an
configuration problem, a codec problem, or what? I've tried everything
I can think of, but so far, nothing has worked. Any ideas?

Don't use source material in MPEG-2 format. MPEG-2 is a delivery format, not an editing format.

Well, I have no choice as the video I want to edit is already in MPEG-2. I have no way of getting the video other than in this format.

Then try using something like VirtualDub or DVD2AVI to convert from MPEG to DV AVI.

One thing that would result in almost exactly the amount of drift that you are experiencing would be if you used 30 fps instead of 29.97 fps (or vice versa). At each stage of your workflow, look at the video assets, and the project settings and see if they all match. Also, look at the original MPEG that you are editing to see what frame rate it is designed for. I'll bet the answer lies in one of these things being set for 29.97 instead of 30 or the other way around.
