Here's an audio problem I had and my workaround solution. The audio from my cllips wouldn't open in an external editor. Here's what happened.
I downloaded a free audio editor. WavePad from NCH seems to work best for me for editing voice Wave files, and I tried about 4 different ones. Most of them didn't seem to handle Wave files well if at all and didn't work with Movie Studio. NCH offers the free WavePad, and if you like it you can buy their pro version with even more features. See http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html
Next, I set WavePad as my audio editor by going into Options, Preferences, Audio.
The first time that I right-clicked on the audio track for the clip that I wanted to edit, a progress dialog came up, and then the file opened in WavePad. I normalized it, reduced the noise, save it, and all was good with the world. Then, when I tried other clips, Movie Studio would open the editor but not export the audio file. It seems to be a Movie Studio problem and not the editor because Movie Studio never gives me the progress bar, and it should have at least shown that if it was exporting the file correctly.
Interestingly, I could choose "Open Copy in Audio Editor" and it worked. But, then I had to save the copy, import it into my project, and sync it up with the original. Not pretty. So, I trieda workaround and it worked! I selected "Open Copy in Audio Editor" and it opened a copy in WavePad. I then immediately switched back to Movie Studio and selected "Open in Audio Editor". No progress bar, but when I saved the file from the editor and switched back to Movie Studio, it updated my orignal audio. Problem sovled!
I hope this helps someone with the same problem.
