Auto-activate Button

I don't have multiple angle tracks, at least I don't think I do. I only have one video track and one audio track.

If I should change the default on that button to 1 which one do I change? The audio track, the subtitle track (I don't have any subtitles) or the video angle. I did change the video angle to 1 and it didn't solve the problem.

Since the audio was playing I would say video angle track.

You might need to re-encode your video and audio.
When in Vegas, zoom in on the timeline at the beginning and make
sure both tracks are lined up. You can trim either track in case they are not. Otherwise you may have the audio not match the actors lips
if you try to move the track left or right.

Also make you your marker is actually pointing to the video and not
slightly just before it.

The audio and video is synchronized and I double checked that.

I also checked and the first marker is actually on the first frame of video. I tried to move that marker farther along so that there would be a slight cushion of a few frames but I was unable to do so.

Any more suggestions?
