Auto inserting and sizing Crossfades

I am creating a video slide show using 50 photographs. I have pulled the photos into the video track. How can apply a 1 second crossfade between each photo without manually dragging each one?

If you set your preferences, you can specify a overlap BEFORE dragging them to the timeline. Since they are already on the timeline...

Excalibur will do this with ease using the Gap Wizard.

There's another script floating around somewhere that does something similar.
