auto-ripple

OK, here I am again. I've been having this problem for some time now but was reluctant to ask. My problem is, when I delete a clip and there is a space left, the auto-ripple does not work although it seems to be on with affected track selected (not greyed-out). Nothing happens. It is only when I go to Edit--Post ripple and click, that the space closes. If it is called auto why does it not close automatically. I know that I may be told not to use it, but for my own curiosity I would like to know why it does not work. Could I get step-by-step instructions on what I should do?

Thanks

In addition to choosing a mode of operation, auto-ripple can also be turned on and off. Are you sure you have it on? The button has two parts, changing one aspect doesn't change the other.

I'm not sure what you mean. I believe it is on because the icon itself has a white background and when I click the arrow the print for track is dark and selected. What am I doing wrong?

OK, I see what was wrong. I was toggling the icon that appears at the top of the screen and that did not work, so I went into Options and saw that auto-ripple was not selected. So I selected it and now it works.

Thanks Chienworks for bringing that to my notice.
