I do everything with the trimmer and subclips rt click event and open in trimmer
In trimmer I select an area with the mouse then click the create subclip icon on right of trimmer window/ then a window pops up and you name the event. You could also just set in and out points and name a subclip for each one of those. It's really a great tool, I resisted it for quite awhile.

Easy enough... but a pain. Next time, I'll make sure Auto Scene Detection is on! Thanks.

You can use HDVSplit to create clips based on time code changes. Works well in my experience with either real-time capture or splitting a large file that you've already captured.

I haven't used it in awhile but I believe Scenalyzer will detect scenes from an AVI file after it is put to hard drive.

Good luck.

Unless it's recently changed, Scenalyzer only works for DV, not HDV.
