Automate shifting of clips into place upon adding clip in between others?

Is it possible to drag a trimmed clip between others and have all the other clips just shift into place. I want to automate that process without me having to reorganizing every clip.

It's annoying to have to rearrange every clip in an entire movie when you only want to edit a small part... or my using the software incorrectly.

Thanks in advance!

If I understand you correctly, all you need to do is carry out a post-edit ripple after making the change (accessed from the 'edit' menu).

yes...I think that's it...

So basically,
1. I select AUTO RIPPLE then move the timeline
2. UN Select AUTO RIPPLE to drag my clip in place.
3. select AUTO RIPPLE again and move timeline back in place ?

Is this the concept?

I'm wondering if its possible to simply drag a clip in between two and have the remaining clips just shift to the right accordingly.
Is this possible?

If you have auto ripple on (set to ripple all tracks/markers) then you need to do nothing else. Just drag your clip where you want it to go and everything will ripple right then.

If you choose to leave Auto Ripple off (many of us do) then you can drag your new clip onto the timeline and do a post-edit ripple (Ctrl-Shift-F)
