Automated motion tracking

mario.f wrote on 8/13/2017, 1:37 AM

Hi guys, Just learned how to use BCC match move to put some texts etc on the moving object in Vegas Pro 14 Suite. Just wondering is there any chance to use BCC motion tracker, mocha or anything to select moving object for local adjustments such a color change, levels etc. In other words, is it possible to apply video fx locally to moving objects only by using other motion tracker than native Vegas manual one? Many thanks for any help.

I think(?) I understand, but do you wanna give a simple description?

In other words, I'm looking for something like witness protection, but instead of covering selected object I wish to apply fx, for example saturation, brightness, contrast etc. Something that Cyberlink Color director offers. Here is video: Thanks a mill.

Have you tried the VEGAS Secondary Colour Corrector? It's meant for this type of switcheroo! Try it, you may Love ❤️ it. No need for tracking.

Thanks for your replay, yes I know how to use color corrector but what I need is to apply fx to the moving objects, not globally. I know it can by done by masking and using key framing but it takes too much time. That's why I'm looking for any way to do this automatically as on above video.

The Secondary Color Corrector will change the color of a selected color and should be able to do what you are looking for.

Yes it will work fine for the simple video as above. In the case of more complex, colorful video it will be a problem. Lets say there are two paragliders instead of one. If I want to change color of just one and use color corrector as you suggest, the change will affect both of them.

I have the impression that the OP wants to alter only one specific object without affecting any other part of the image outside the target object that is possibly of the same color/saturation/brightness/contrast/etc.

If you have BCC10, then you can use the Mocha tracking that is available in most of BCC10 plugins. For example, if you want to increase the target object's contrast, apply the BCC Brightness/Contrast plugin and select Mocha from the plugins options. The Mocha workspace will open. Apply spline points around the object until the first and last points meet, and then track the object in Mocha. If the points are positioned on distinct image differences (e.g. white to the left of the point; black to the right of the point), then the chances of a successful track is improved. However, if the points are located on areas of the image that have minimal differences either side of the point, then manual correction in the Mocha track is very probably going to be required.

After finishing the track and saving the Mocha project, Mocha closes and the BCC plugin re-appears. Then make your FX adjustments, feather the edge of the track and/or invert the FX if needed. Voila!

Glad to have you confirm you know how to use Secondary Colour Corrector. Thank you.

Motion Track Masks are the way to go. I've dabbled with MOCHA and it is outstanding. My Secondary Colour Corrector option would fail when the colours become mixed, close to the target colour and generally be too hard to determine which is what. MOCHA is pretty good at "holding" planar shape fidelity to be used as a MASK. Used in the way Dexcon outlined is the way forward.

Like to see your final output! Before and After?

Guys many thanks for your help. I'll try Mocha and hopefully will be able to apply fx to specific object using Mocha tracking data. Will let you know how this work. Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately looks like Mocha works with BCC fx only. I can't see any option to use Vegas or any third party plugins. I try to explain this in different way - lets say I want to make this above paraglider black and white by using Vegas native black and white fx. Is it possible to make a mask with Mocha and apply effect other than BCC? Thanks a lot.

Please explain? I see that there is a Plug into VP: https://www.imagineersystems.com/products/mocha-pro/#whats-new

Does that help?

I'm spending long time on this but still can't see how to transfer Mocha's tracking data to Vegas. Mocha works great within BCC with witness protection, match move, corner pin etc. Maybe it's not possible to use Mocha's tracking data to do mask in Vegas, outside BCC.

ryclark wrote on 8/20/2017, 5:48 AM

I don't have Mocha. However I use BCC match Move and Corner Pin quite a lot with Vegas effects. But to access it you have to add the move plugin to your Compositing mode within Vegas. With BCC Match Move (or presumably Mocha) installed click on the track Compositing button in Vegas and select Custom from the drop down menu. This should open an effects selection window where you can choose the BCC/Mocha Match Move/Corner Pin mode that you require.

If you use the standalone version of mocha you would need Vegasaur to import mocha tracking data into Vegas Pro. Vegasaurs allows to apply TXT tracking data to Vegas' Track Motion and Pan/Crop tool.

You certainly wouldn't need to use Vegasaur if you use the mocha OFX plug-in in Vegas Pro. To me it is not clear if you use mocha standalone or mocha OFX plug-in.

Thank you very much guys. There is definitely corner pin and match move in the compositing mode but couldn't see Mocha there. However, I'll double check it later. I'm not sure what version is it. This is BCC Continuum included in Vegas Pro 14 Suite. Mocha can be found inside BCC witness protection plugin. Thanks a lot.
