automatic background job for footage preparation?

Hi;

Apologize for maybe a trivial question, but i never did automation with vegas before, so i consider myself as absolute newbie in this area...

Having said that, i want to automatically transform my fraps-generated uncompressed raw footage into a compressed format, before i do further working on the material within vegas.

The ideal solution would be something like that:

- whenever i place a file into a given "input"-directory, vegas should take this file, transform it into my desired format and place the result to another "output"-directory.
- When vegas has finished its task, it moves the original footage to a "backup"-directory.

Is that possible to script ? Would it be a complex thing to do ? is there a sample script somewhere around, that is good for such an automating tasks ?

Get a copy of the Veggie Toolkit from Peachrock. It costs, 15 day full feature trial available. I've used it since it first came out and I believe it will do exactly what you want.

Hi, Bob;

Thank you for your hint about the Veggie Toolkit.
I have taken a look at it and it indeed seems to be a versatile tool. From the documentation i have understood that it can help me a lot, so i will give it a try.
Although i could not yet explicitly find a way to map my intended workflow directly to it.

What you want to look at is the Multirenderer in the Veggie Toolkit, I make a lot of use of that but not exactly in the way that you describe.

I use it not only to batch a whole bunch of Vegas project but also to convert all the media files in one folder into a different codec in another folder. I did notice another option though that seemed to cause it monitor a specified folder for files and then process them. I'm not exactly certain though if that Vegas projects or just media files.

Best bet would be to download it and see how it works for you. Nothing to loose and you get 15 days to try it out. Randle is very open to ways to enhance the product so if there's something you'd like added and it's possible to do there's a good chance he'll enhance the code to do what you want.
