Automatic Fade-ins and Fade-outs

I want to create automatic fade-ins and fade-outs when adding events to a timeline instead of using automatic crossfades. What are the steps for setting this up in Vegas Pro 8?

There is no way to set this up as a default. You can use scripts like Ultimate S Pro or Excalibur or even some free scripts to change this with one click after the event has been added to the timeline but there is no option to automatically do this in Vegas Pro.
