Autosave not working consistantly

Autosave is turned on: X is in the box.

A project I was working on earlier today does have a .bak in the same folder as the .veg.

I did a save-as of that project with a new name, began working on that project, NEGLECTED TO SAVE, duh, but find no .bak of the new project. I had been working on it for about 2 hours.

Why didn't Vegas make a backup or autosave? The .veg time last saved is the time I created it, no .baks for 2 hours.

Why didn't Vegas create a .bak? Or does autosave do something else? Where would I find the autosaved file?

Thanks!

Check under: C/ USERS/___/AppData/Local/Sony/Vegas Pro (your version)

Should be an autosave .veg there and .bak

Rob,

Strange, because the project I had been working on earlier did have a .veg.bak, but stored on the drive and in the folder where I was storing items for this project. No veg backups in the C drive location you mentioned.
I installed the update today. Maybe that will fix it.
Thanks for the reply!

<projectname>.veg.bak files are created when YOU save the project. It's just the last state of your project before saving and it's not the Autosave.

Autosave in Vegas creates backup copy of your project every X minutes in the location specified in the Temporary files folder box in the Preferences dialog. If your system crashes, you will be prompted to open the backup file the next time you start Vegas. These files are saved with the .autosave.veg extension and are deleted when you exit the application.

For advanced backup solution take a look at Project Backups module in Vegasaur

If you want multiple backup files with date/time stamps in the file names, you simply need to install Excalibur and then go to Tools - Extensions - Auto Save. Many people have been using this tool for years to generate backup files. Even if you don't purchase Excalibur, Auto Save is free and will continue to work after Excalibur expires.
