I am just getting started with video and need some advice on capturing VHS tapes to DV AVI files.
I have the Pinnacle AV/DV analog capture card, but am having problems with it. I also have a Sony TRV-27 DV camcorder with the AV-IN/DV-OUT feature.
I would like to use this feature to capture the VHS video, but every video application I have tested tries to send camcorder control signals over the 1394 cable to the camcorder. When this happens, the capture fails, because the camcorder is not ready to play with the AV-IN/DV-OUT function enabled. Also, because the video is really coming from the AV-IN, the camcorder should not start playing its DV tape.
Is there something I am missing here? I would like the video capture process to just use the video coming in over the 1394 cable, which the video software sees and can display with no problem. However, starting the capture process sends the camcorder signal to start playing the camcorder tape. I haven't found a way to turn off this camcorder control function.
Any tips or tricks on how to do a capture using the AV-IN/DV-OUT feature? Thanks in advance for any help.
