AVCHD gh1 Flicker Vegas 9 but not Vegas 8

If I bring AVCHD files directly from a Pannasonic GH1 into Vegas 9.d I get a flicker on play back and render. It's like a changing of exposure .

I put it into Vegas 8. No problem.
I convert to AVI files then into Vegas 9. No problem.

If I play in Windows media Player Win 7, no problem.

Any suggestions as there are times to do a simple cut edit and don't really need to convert to AVI... an would like to edit the native AVCHD file in Vegas 9.

Check your properties of the project in Vegas 8 and make sure they match Vegas 9. The default may be different and causing the problem. Also make sure the render settings for Vegas 9 match exactly the render settings of Vegas 8. The default for avi is Good instead of Best for avi. Good luck.

Render settings are the same.
Preview shows the problem which is the same on render.

Properties are the same for both.

I've spent enough time messing with it to think it's a codec problem.

It's sort of baffling that ver 8 doesn't show the problem but v9 does.

I'm traveling and using win 7 on my lap top which has way less on it then my workstation. I'll try it when I get back to see if I can replicate the problem.

I was hoping someone else has/had seen this problem and could tell me to add or delete a codec and my problems would be over.

It's strange that windows media player works fine but when in Vegas v9, I see the problem.

YES I have seen this issue with my GH-1 AVCHD files (720p) in 9.0e. It does this on a very small percentage of files (and always on the same files). Switching from 8.1 to 9.0d seemed to largely solve my GH-1 AVCHD issues and improve timeline performance. But AVCHD issues and dismal timeline playback are both back with a vengeance in 9.0e.

Rebooting the computer will often eliminate the flickering - but only for a while - and has no effect on files that cause Vegas to freeze. My work-around has been rendering the problem files to .mxf, which Vegas handles extremely well. Ironically, I've needed to do this in 8.1, which had no problem with the very same files that were crashing 9,0e.

I love Vegas' interface and workflow, but the inability to accurately preview edits is quadrupling my editing time. My home computer (Core i5), is significantly faster than my work computer (2x dual-core Xeon), so it's obvious that we need to upgrade. I've been trying to decide between single vs dual 6-core Xeon CPU's and have finally concluded that a single 6-core and an upgrade to CS5 is the way to go - twelve cores will improve timeline performance, but all the cores in the world won't solve the AVCHD compatibility issues.

In the short term I'll use CS5 to transcode problem (and perhaps all) AVCHD files to .mxf - with GPU acceleration this should be fairly efficient. In the long term my expectation is that Vegas' timeline performance with AVCHD will become comparable to that of Edius and PremPro.

I have Cineform's neoscene and that works fine for transcoding the AVCHD files and QT files for Vegas.

However, their licensing makes it difficult to switch between computers. It would be nice if they were like others and let you have one copy on workstation and one on laptop. The switching between computers is a hassle, so I don't do it.

As to the occasional quick edit using the AVCHD files, it's a shame V9 can't do it.
