Count me in on the HV20 support - but even if they do support the camera, I can't see them making a press release about it.
I've begun hounding Canon to see if we can get a firmware update to have the camera insert necessary flags for pulldown removal since that seems to be the issue. I'll update as necessary on my efforts, but if more people contacted Canon about it that might help.
Any cameras the new Vegas doesn't support should work with NEO HDV (the new Connect HD.) We already remove pulldown from HV20 sequences and can convert AVCHD sources to AVIs for higher editing performance and quality.
David,
(Now that we have you here)
If Sony updates Vegas to address the HV20 pulldown, what would be the other added advantages to purchasing NEO HDV? It sounds like a lot of Vegas forum users have a high regard for your product; just being cheap (sorry, Scottish).
CClub - start here: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=177&modelid=14869 click "support" - choose "support by email" Tell them you're concerned about the lack of automatic pulldown removal on 24p files with the major video editing software programs due to Canon's failure to include flags. Suggest a firmware update. Then send the same email here: dv@cits.canon.com
Believe or it not we got Canon to recall one of their EOS still camera lenses this way last year. Many of us had problems with the newly released 70-300 IS. We sent it in for service and all Canon would say was that is was "within spec". But enough of us wrote, called, emailed and within a year they redesigned the lens and many of us (including me) got our $600 back.
24Peter,
I emailed both and I'll call next week also. Thanks.
Edit:
I JUST RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM CANON:
Thank you for your inquiry on the HV20. We value you as a Canon
customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
Canon USA has made no announcements regarding the development or
release
of a firmware update related to the issue you have described. No
service notifications have been released.
As this is not a defect or malfunction, it is unlikely that an update
adding this feature will be released.
Your comments are noted and will be passed along to the appropriate
party. Thank you for taking the time to write.
If you stay only in Vegas and don't do multilayered rendering, you don't really need Neo HDV. However for the compatibility advantages of AVI, higher quality rendering, and more pre-filtering controls like pulldown and resizing both editing, you should look at NEO HDV/HD/2K. NEO 2K is now available for trail.
David,
Thanks much for the reply. I'll definitely be considering it given Canon's response above regarding the "flags" issue.
Edit: I just read something from a HV20 user that says he used MPEG Streamclip (www.squared5.com) to get 24p pulldown from 60i using the HV20. Anyone hear of using that?
