This camera does work with Vegas Platinum. You need;
1. To make sure you have purchased Vegas Platinum 8, not the plain version or older version.
2. You have installed the free update 8.0d from this web site which adds Canon AVCHD support.
1 Vegas platinum 80d update worked perfectly thanks.
2 i also tried vegas 7 0e update as this this is my main edit software but this did not work for canon hg10 mabey it will for sony avchd
cams
3 Fortunately i did have platinum 8 which i bought for dvd cutting only
now i will use it for pre rendering avchd to avi then reimport to vegas 7 the avchd quality is brilliant .
4 my colleague uses vegas 8 and this worked strait of the bat. for any body out theire who is interested.
1. Good.
2. Vegas 7 does not support AVCHD at all. It's a new feature for v8.
3. Just make sure you export that with a lossless codec, with the right settings.
4. If your collegue has Vegas Pro, yes, as Pro was released after Platinum, so it had Canon support in it.
1 what are good lossless settings? I am not fam with this codec i normaly work strait uncompressed avi
2 what are your views with avchd compared to hdv mpeg 2? some say sharpness not so good it looks brilliant to me.
3 i am a bit confused mpeg 2 = 720 x 576 so where does MPEG 2 HDV come from? even if your bit rate is higher than 6000 you are still on pixel rate of 720 x 576
1. You select "custom" for AVI and you set the Cineform codec, with the same attributes (resolution, field order etc) as the original .m2ts files.
2. I prefer mpeg2 for now. Check here http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2008/03/07/hv20-vs-hf10-vs-hg10/
3. Mpeg2 is a codec that can do any resolution. The resolution you are mentioning is simply the DVD resolution. But this doesn't mean that this the only resolution can do. HDV is 1440x1080 at 25mbps.
Do not use the 24p version of your HG10. It's a pain in the bum to remove pulldown, as Vegas does not have this ability (you need After Effects to do pulldown removal in one go, or buy the Cineform NeoHD utility). Just use the default 60i.
in south africa we use PAL so wouldn't it be better to shoot 24p
or do u suggest 60i . so how i understand it avchd 60i already has pulldown affected for NTSC so i must remove it .?
sorry for all the questions but by what i see avchd looks great
in relation to compress size to quality so i would like to learn more
and work with this format.
somtimes i get material from USA which i have to convert for presentations and i would rather stand over a BBQ and get smoke in my eyes, this pulldown story is difficult to understand
If your camera is PAL, then you can not record in 60i or in 24p. Only in 25p and 50i. If your camera is indeed PAL, you don't need to remove any pulldown. You just edit the footage as is on Vegas, using the right template each time, with the right frame rate and field order (upper field for 50i, progressive for 25p).
No. Both LCDs and plasmas can de-interlace. If you want to shoot in 25p or 50i is purely your option. Shoot progressive if your videos are for the web, and shoot 50i, interlaced, if you only want to make DVDs for your TVs.
As for pulldown removal, you never have to do that for a PAL camera.
