AVCHD With 5.1 render.. DAMN! + others

DJPadre wrote on 9/12/2007, 6:27 AM
Cmon this encoder is pretty trashy considering half the tweaks available in the standard Ac3 encoder arent even availabel here.. and i hoenstly DONT think Dolby Digital would lower thier standards for HD..
Wheres the dialogue normalisation? I mean this one element is one of THE most profound element of AC3 encoding.. what about DR compression?

Then theres the layout window.. since when did Vegas try to emulate Liquid, or Premiere.. or even edius.. ?
and why when trying to redock these panels does the buger not lock them in? Are they trying to do an edius with multiple panles? What a friggin headache..
Smal gripe.. yes, but why change a good thing?

Heres another one..
Get this..
ProTitler titles DONT EVEN REGISTER ON THE HISTOGRAM/VECTORSCOPE unless you throw some colour on it

oh heres another dozy.. go into the help file and try to look up "layout" give it a minute and watch it puke its guts up and crash teh whole program.. I thought MS help files were seperate from the actual app?

and copying layouts from 7 through to 8 doesnt work either.. i jsut tried..

why cant we drag the timeline? this is ridiculous

Oh well, AVCHD 5.1 rendering was a nail...
the vectorscope only works on protitler titles with colour.. not flat BW...
error messags on closure..
Flaky Cineform integration..
random shutdowns when accessing help and the titler...
slow as buggery mpg rendering in 8bit (even basic CC)
and the most important to me.. panel layouts..

Im now running a system restore..
during install it installed some kind of print driver and some other crap.. during running, i kept getting warning and access messages from my firewall..

Im sorry, but despite the fact im an avid Vegas user and have been for a bloody long time... i buy software for it to work for me without the headaches..
After 2 full days of working with this (or trying to in any case) , i think ill buy it now thats its a cheap upgrade, but i wont install it at least until 8b is released

For now, im restoring my laptop to its former glory

There is a preference checkbox that changes the timeline from top to bottom.

Options > Preferences > Display tab
X Display timeline at bottom of main window

That took 2 seconds to fix, thankyou.

I've gotten the 5.1 to work for avchd by unchecking the Low pass filter and disabling low pass stuff in the audio options for rendering. Haven't pin-pointed the exact combination that worked.
Some of the 5.1 vidoes would play on the computer but not on a PS3.
All the avchd files I've made playback on the PS3 using Dolby 2/0, nice video, I don't need 15MBS and drop it down. My source videos aren't that great.

So far, for making interlaced MP4/h264 with aac audio works great.
Have to rename the MP4 to MPG for WMP in Vista to play the video, to bad windows vista doesn't have a filter or Alias features
If your trying to create a avchd 5.1 file the project properties audio has to be 5.1
Then I disabled all the references to Low pass filter, normalize, LFE enhancements etc.

ProType is registering on my Waveform. I drop the Opacity and its referenced position on the Waveform drops down.

thanx admin, thats fixed ONE problem.. but why is this not mentioned in any of the help files? (.. its NOT in the help file thats for sure.. ) I finaly got the help file to work either way

I mean, I see that we can now select to view active take information within the "view" tab... much like any other selection we wish to view, but maybe in build 2, this particular selection might find a better home within the actual "windows layouts" tab found in the "views" tab.. this would be a logical place to put it considering its specifically refering to a window layout.. and its teh first place people will look..

Thanks again for the info

titler works with histogram if ive got dropshadow or colour aside from that it wont work

i directly copied the layouts from the v7 folder through to the Pro 8 folder, restarted the app and nothing.. its as if the layouts dont exist

Layouts? Where is your "Current Layout Folder" pointing to?

Probably because this feature was introduced in Vegas 7 and everyone who had been dying to put the timeline on the bottom (like me) figured it out right away. All they did for V8 is default to Timeline down vs Timeline up (good decision IMHO but yes the switch should be right out front!)

Sorry, with the way my mind and edit structure works, i edit at the top because thats where my eyes lay first... as for it being in V7, i dont ever recall seeing this..
Either way, for the way i work, i know my footage is good and i know what i need to do to cut it.. so previewing at full frame rate at full res and having it hit me in the face is not needed.. so having the timeline at eye level is far more important than having a preview window..

Grazie, my layouts were saved in the directory which the help file in V8 directed me to..

OK, is this the same as the "Current Layout Folder" path that you can see on the top of "Organize Layouts"? If not, then that maybe why Vegas can't see them?
