AVCHD Workflow

I love editing on Sony Movie Studio 9b Pro. Very flexible and stable.
I need to edited my AVCHD video clips on a medium fast computer (dual core) and then produce a movie in several formats:
a) in HD .m2ts format archived on a hard drive, which I can later further edit or add to
b) Bluray format burnt onto a DVD disc to play on a Bluray player
c) SD DVD disc to play on a standard DVD player.

I am baffled by the huge number of workflow options involving for example render, prerender, produce movie with or without using DVD Architect 4.5.
I find that VMS will not import previously edited .m2ts files copied from a Bluray format DVD disc. Why?
Any suggestions most welcome!

I am using AVCHD and I have C2D 2.66 GHz. For SD DVDs, I use the standard "Make Movie" which is really a standard mpg and ac3 template. You can use the same approach for BluRay too - except choose the right resolution for the footage that you shot (eg. 1920x1080 60i or whatever you used).

Note that the original AVCHD files are .m2ts, so if you want to archive the project in a single format (your option 1), you can use the "Render as" command and choose the Sony or MainConcept AVC codecs. You will then have to render the audio separately. Note that I get Vegas to re-read my converted AVCHD files by altering the BluRay template. I am only using 1440x1080 BR template and change the video format to AVCHD and to m2ts on the system template. I use the Sony AVC codec.

Hope that helps.

Many thanks, Markk655
I understood most but not all of that! Anyway it helps.

In principle, can you import .m2ts files into Movie Studio from previously created BluRay discs? I can't, (the computer freezes if I try) but maybe I just have a bad file (it is about 2GB long).

I don't have any lareg BluRay movies, but if you choose the right BluRay format in the settings, I have been successful re-importing it. Try the settings from my earlier post in a short project and see if that works.

Thanks but I am not sure what you mean by "choose the right BluRay format in the settings"

Do you mean when I burn the movie onto disc (in Bluray format)?

The disc was set to burn to BluRay disc : format Sony AVC : template 1929x1080 - 50i,10Mbps : Audio Sony Wave 64. And it plays fine on my Bluray player.

I have set the new project to 1920x1050, and I can import any .m2ts file on the hard disc copied across from my Canon camera but not the .m2ts file previously made with the editor "make movie".

Do you get the option to customize the bluray format? When I click file>render as>, select proper bluray template and then click customize. Choose AVCHD from video format and m2ts on the system tab. I believe that should still work on a BluRay player AND is reimportable.
