.avi 1 to .avi 2 ?

How can I change an .avi 1 file to a .avi 2 file? The .avi 1 read into Video Wave and Power Director but not VV3. There doesn't seem to be a way I can find to change file types.

I tried this program and it immediately gives me the error that the file type is incompatable with this program. Bummer. I'd hate to have to return to the "Darkside".
