AVI Capture Problems; TrimmerFine Video 1 Bad

I am capturing video using an ATI All in wonder Radeon from a sony 8mm composite plug. The Capture seems to be fine with the followng details:

Codec = MS-MPEG4 V1 I have tried many others with the same result
Width 320
Height 240
Sample size = 24 bit.

When I open the file in the trimmer window all is fine. After selecting a section and adding to my project the audio is fine but the Video is all black. The odd thing is, I can see the occasional frame in the Video 1 line of the project but it won't play or render properly. Any ideas of what to do to resolve the problem would be great

Have you tried capturing to uncompressed AVI? This will give you the best results. If you're short on drive space you can capture each scene one at a time then render it to a DV file which will compress about 5:1. Uncompressed 640x480x24bit 29.97fps will need about 1.2GB/minute. DV will need about 225MB/minute.
