AVI file from new notebook

I just purchased a new DELL replacement for my old worn to pieces Compaq. For some reason the new computer produces avi files (standard ntsc) tht won't play on Final Cut. I have checked and verified that the computers are doing (STANDARD NTSC DV (720x480, 60i, etc)) and without fail, the avi files wll not play in Final Cut (6) BUT the avi fils from my desktop play fine. The only difference is that the desktp is older and been upgraded from Vegas 7, an every incremental upgrade. The notebook is loadad straight with 8.0c. Did SCS drop/add something, new AVI format? Have to use Final Cut cause Vegas kills my Closed Captioning on ine 21 when I print to tape.

Are you using XP or Vista?

Did you uncheck the option to use third party codecs?

Yes, it is unchecked. I checked against the "working" desktop and the notebook and both computers have the same options. G-spot tells me that the AVI codec is dvsd????
