i have a canon powershot a80 digital camera that takes some ok video and saves it as a .AVI file (not the capitals) but when i open them in vegas video it only seems to read the audio, i import it and the video bar is blank but all the audio is intact. all the other avi files with .avi in lower case work fine? anyone else have this problem? what should i do?

You are missing the codec that can interpret the AVI from your camera.

Perhaps it's on the Canon website?

I have a Canon S50 and had the same problem. Rather than searching Canon's site, I opened the file up in Virtual Dub and re-saved it using the huffyyuv codec. Worked like a charm.

The contents of the file are a "motion JPEG" - my A60 produces the same type of file.

You'll need to purchase a codec to see these in Vegas; MainConcept offers a codec for $19 - try downloading the demo version, it used to be that the demo would let you decode without putting a watermark on the image, so unless they've changed it, you can get the decoder for free (which is all you need for Vegas).
