Install the ffdshow package and try again. Search for ffdshow on this subforum for links.

Hi Eugenia, there are two downloads: ffdshow_rev3065_20090902_clsid.exe and ffdshow_rev3065_20090902_clsid_icl10.exe. Which one do I go for?

ffdshow makes a lot of unwanted changes that aren't fully undone when uninstalled. I had to do a system restore to get my registry back to it's original state.

Suggest you find out what video codec was used for your avi files (with MediaInfo or Gspot), then we can assist you with finding the specific codec you need. For instance, if what you really need is a working MJPEG VFW decoder, ffdshow isn't going to do the trick.

In this case, the rifle approach beats the shotgun approach, by a mile. Don't know why anyone would want a dozen codecs to solve one problem.

Yes it does. FFdshow provides MJPEG AVI to Vegas.

Also, ffdshow hasn't messed up my system.

As to which file to download, in the previous replies I offered a link for, I explained which one.

ffdshow does not work on my XP or Vista systems with MJPEG VFW. It changed some codecs to other versions. Didn't need that, don't want that.

Don't even know if the OP has MJPEG, or if so what flavor, just giving an example. Waiting for that reply.

Oh, and still holding up a mirror . . .

Thanks guys. I am learning about the world of codecs and both of you have given me good information.

So post your MediaInfo results here and someone should be able to give you some specific advice.

Dear Musicvid, I have to confess, i went for the blunderbus approach and installed ffdshow....and have never looked back! All problems (so far) solved.
