I've created AVI capture files with another app (Dazzle's Moviestar 5). They play fine in Windows Media Player and in other media viewers. However, when I try to use them in Vegas, I get an unknown file type error. What's wrong?
They are probably using a Codec that Vegas doesn't recognize. There is a tit-for-tat aspect to this. AVI files that you capture with Sonic Foundry's Video Capture utility use a proprietary "dvsd" Codec that most other applications don't recognize. There are dozens of Codecs that can be used in AVI files, so the current AVI video file exchange situation is becoming something like the biblical "Tower of Babel."
