AVI from Powershot S1 IS failed to import

Using:
Vegas Video 4.0 (upgrading. later)

I dragged the 640x480AVI files from the CompactFlash dish onto my HD. I can run the video clips with Windows media. They look and sound pretty good.

BUT, when I try to import it into Vegas Video 4.0. the properties show the Audio as 2 tracks with information and the Video shows as (stream offline). When I drag it to a video track, only the audio shows and when I play it I see no video, but can hear audio.

Do I need some kind of converter from one type of AVI to another(?). I've looked to get specific information on what AVI type the camera is generating. So far I'm not finding much.

Any quick ideas for a work around. My 'quick' way to get some video clips is looking more like an arduous journey. Drat!

Thanks,
Amin

You likely need an mjpeg codec/decompressor. You can find decompressors at these websites. I think Lead's is free.

Ok, so I'm learning. I found the knowledge base reference to Motion JPEG from Digital camera failing to have Video recognized by Vegas. I downloaded the codec from Morgan (60 days to 'play') and now have a quick bit of video rendering. Defiinitely progress.

Thanks, Vegas knowledge base!

Welcome to the forum! Glad it worked out for you.

You can download the one from main concept, and it works just fine with vegas. I think it is a trial version, but doesn't seem to have expired on me.

However, if you try to render MJPEG file, then you get the text "www.mainconcept.com" scrolling across on top of your video. Guess you have to pay to take care of that.

Yeah, the reader is free. It's writing to the codec that costs.

I appreciate the feedback. I'm alot clearer on how pervasive CODECS are for getting file from format to format. I thought it was just about getting it from MiniDV to something manageable on a PC. It's a whole lot more.

Thanks,
It's good to be here.
