Download the Vegas Platinum 9 trial version and see if it works with it. If yes, then you must upgrade. If not, do a bug report with Sony.

BTW, h.264 is not very common in the AVI container, it's usually more common in MP4 and MOV. Which is why some apps -- like vegas -- might have trouble supporting it.

Personally, I would never buy non-standard camcorders, like this Toshiba. While this is a Toshiba, and Toshiba happens to be a big brand name, it doesn't play by the rules of modern camcorder standards, which use specific codecs and formats.

Make sure you install the software that comes with the camera. It is very likely that it will install the right codecs. If you're lucky, Vegas will take advantage of it immediately. If not, you may need to transfer the files from camera to pc using Toshiba's software first.
Note: I'm just brainstorming here, I don't have the camera.

edit: I just checked the manual of the H10. It does state you need to install the Arcsoft software to edit the footage AND to perform 'install video codec' from the cd that came with the H10.

Just tried the trial version of Vegas 9 it didn't work. We have already reported this to Sony, sounds as thought it will be added in the future but how long is the wait.
I didn't know it was going to be a problem when we bought the Toshiba. The first batch sold out and they had 725 back orders when the second batch of 2000 arrived.

Have installed the software that came with the camera. The codec auto installs on Windows Mediaplayer and works. The software from Arcsoft includes two programs. The first allows you to convert other formats to run in the camera, the second is a simple ( and I mean simple) program that allows you to join files toghter to make a movie. But there is no editing capabilities.

You should now try again with Vegas 8 or 9 and see if it works. If you're lucky, it will.

Also, you may want to instal K-lite codec pack (here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm). This may solve the issue.

Apologies, I must have tried them in the wrong order late last night, because when I tried VMS 8 and 9 both now work properly. Now twe can learn how to edit THANKS.

Just for the record, did the K-lite codec pack solve the problem, or was it the software that came with the Toshiba?
