AVI issues again

Movie Studio does not seem to be able to play (or see) certain AVI files yet MS Media player plays them and other DVD burning software I have "sees" them as well.

Someone suggested some freeware program to open and resave the AVI files. What was that program again? :-)

And if another DVD authoring program can see and use the AVI file and Sony cannot, I say they have a bug that needs to be addressed.

I'm guessing that was Virtualdub.

Maybe not - it depends what the "unseeable" AVIs are. They could, for instance, be DivX. I've got no interest in editing DivX so I'd be unhappy about paying the extra cost of supporting it - particularly if there's a freeware app that solves the problem. TANSTAAFL :-)

I'm sure VirtualDub will solve your problem, Mr. C.

Assuming the AVIs you have are DV-AVIs, they could well be type 1 DV-AVIs rather than the more universal type 2. Windows MovieMaker, for instance (for some reason), exports AVIs as type 1. Must be a Microsoft thing.

By opening this AVI in VirtualDub and doing a Save As, VirtualDub will automatically do the necessary conversion.

Here's an explanation of the difference, if you want to know:
