AVI "issues" - No Video

Mr_Christopher wrote on 10/4/2004, 8:31 AM
I have a few AVI files I want to put in my project. When I copy them to the project I only get the audio portion, no video even though I can run the AVI in Windows and see the video.

I looked in the help files and it said soemthing about being able to edit the audio but did not specifically state you could edit (or even see) the video.

Any ideas? And yes I have tried numerous AVI files and none of the video seems to work within Movie Studio 4.

Other than that, what a great program this is!

There are actually two types of AVI files, and MS, like most consumer editing programs, will only edit (I believe) type 2.

Converting one type to another is easy, though. And free. Look for a program called Virtual Dub on the internet. (It's an open source program that's provided free of charge.) Your files will open in Virtual Dub. Just choose "save as" and save over your old files and Virtual Dub will automatically convert them.

Cheers to that!

I can't remember if VirtualDub will do batch conversions. If it can't, and you only want to convert AVI formats, have a look at the Canopus Converter.

You don't say where the AVIs came from - are they DivX?
