avi-quicktime-DVD?

A sound post shop wants to review my film before we talk specifics, just to see the movie. He asked me to render my avi timeline files (on Vegas 5) to Quicktime, then use Sorenson to compress them onto a DVD.

I assume by this that he is one of the Children of the Mac, but don't see why it's necessary, or why I couldn't just mail him my existing DVD (MPEG-2 to VOB via DVD A2). Before I call back and contradict him, wonder if there's a good reason to take another 6-10 hours to render a Quicktime file of a 1:45 movie?

Sorenson is a quicktime codec , it is included with vegas and you can buy the PRO version to upgrade the Vegas version (slightly - only squeeze gets all the features) . Use the drop down under custom to select it ...

to render 1:45 project to QT Sorenson3 , should not take more than 2-3 hours with only an average system from your final render avi ...

he prob. wants to review on a FCP system or avid system , neither of which is too DVD input friendly .. so it makes sense in that regard .. Plus with a dvd , it will be harder for him to makes notes at specific timecode points ...

though many places (for review) , just want a vhs tape ..

btw - I always put burned watermark and timecode starting at 1 hour on first modulation of sound or first picture (which ever is first) when I send these things out ..

if this project is going to be filmed out - with vegas it is even more importaint to put burned in timecode and frame count at 24fps

this is a kinda weakness of vegas in this regard ..

Sorenson does not have the ability to burn DVDs. If you're making a DVD, what difference does it make to them what codec or application you use?

Like you said, just ask him why he needs what he's describing if all he wants to do is look at it.
