AVI rendering now producing severe jitter

All of a sudden every video I try to render as a AVI now takes forever and introduces a severe jitter every couple seconds. Does not show any distortion in the preview window, but it shows up in the rendered file. The rendering process is now also taking far longer than before.

I changed none of my system setting, added no new hardware or software and changed no setting on Video Factory. I'm still using the same AVI template. Makes no difference if set to "good" or "best" quality. Repeated on three different files that are rock solid with no jitter in source file and now each of them has severe jitter introduced in every rendering attempt and the rendering time is at least triple what it was.

I played these files in three different players and the jitter is there in every one including Microsoft's version 7 of Media Player.

When I render the same project in RM format or as a MPEG the created file is fine with no jitter at all and rendering time is as it was in the past.
