AVI viewer lockup

Hey guys,

I get a consistent lockup when I try to view a 24 bit AVI.
PII 450, 128MB RAM, Win98. I can play the audio tracks for
a while, but although the preview window shows up, and I
can change its background, etc., it does not play back the
AVI (just shows the first frame), and eventually locks the
whole program requiring a CTRL-ALT-DEL to end the task.
Any ideas?

Here's a quick update: It seems to lockup only when I
attempt to close the preview window. However, the
animation in the preview window definitely does not update
on playback. Video card is an STB nVIDIA TNT 16MB, driver
4.10.01.9145. I'll try updating the driver if one is
available.

Okey doke, updated the nVidia drivers to 4.11.01.0188, but
alas, it still locks up hard every time I close the preview
window, and the window does not update while the animation
is playing.

Hey David,

If it's any help at all, I'm using the new nVidia drivers
with a Miro DC30+ and haven't seen the same problem.

The 24bit AVI file I tried is 700Meg with no audio in it.

Preview is still a bit jerky, but does work.

What flavour of compression are you using on the AVI?
I'll see if I can duplicate it.

I'm using Win98, PII 450, 128Mb SDRAM, 18Gig U2W drives,
Creative's version of the TNT with nVidia drivers.

I had a problem with the whole Vegas Pro being shut down anytime I
tried recording in 24 bit. When I called SF supoport about it they
tried blaming the sound card drivers. So I called Digilabs (soudcard)
support who has the best support I have ever experienced. I was told
it was a Vegas problem that SF was aware of and they were very
suprised that SF support did not own up to the problem and send me
the fix. I got the fix which was a patch for the registry. I dont
know what the name of the patch is or what it does but SF should have
it if you can get lucky enough to get them to respond to you.

Good Luck
