jkrepner, I don't think I like you anymore :) I would hate for Avid to buy out Madison.

Ha Ha. Okay, I edited the Subject Line.

Not much info so far, but I'm interested in "Keyframeable transformations, crop, and effects" in DVDA4 and the "New! Improved workflow tools" in Vegas 7.

Can the NDA(ers) talk yet?

Ok... I KNOW I'm a downer. I know that.
But if these are the "top features," I'm seriously depressed.
I wish I could design a program with an amalgam of my favourite tool, Vegas, and what I've recently become very impressed with, Premier Pro 2.
Each has some great features not found in the other. (I don't even care about Avid or FCP, sorry.)
Based on CURRENT info and price point, I'm more impressed with Premier Pro 2.
This sucks - for me.
They're all just tools, though.

While the teaser really pointed out only a couple new things amongst a sea of features that are already part of Vegas' feature set, I still have hope for something good.

But why even make a teaser page for a new version of Vegas and just plaster old features all over it?

"Unlimited video and audio tracks"
"New! Render to iPod®-compatible formats" (More compatible than the ipod formats in Vegas 6?)
"5.1 Surround Mixing tools"
...

Aside from a couple things, it looks a lot like a teaser for Vegas 4 :(

So why do I still have hope for something great?

1) Vegas 7 - "New! Improved workflow tools" - While that's an incredibly vague feature, it at least gives me hope that some of my desired workflow enhancements will be present in Vegas 7.
2) DVDA 4 - "New! Scripting support" - While it looks like that refers to scripting DVD interactivity (which is very powerful in its own right), it introduces the hope that they may (one day) see value in providing the same workflow-enhancing scripting support that we enjoy in Vegas.
3) Bezier Animation Paths - If you look on the screenshot for DVDA, there's a bezier curve with handles that looks to be connected to one of the buttons on the menu. That seems to indicate that animation paths can be bezier curves-- something that is sorely lacking in Vegas' own animation toolset. Here's hoping that if they had the foresight to put it in DVDA, they would also put it in Vegas (even though DVDA has very useful features such as Photoshop layer support and Vegas does not).

Nevertheless, while I do still have hope, it doesn't help that their bullet list of mostly enhanced features are what they choose to call Vegas' "Top New Features". If these are Vegas' top new features, is it futile to hope? I'm hoping it's just really bad PR ;)

Hmmm. No support for AVCHD?
Logan5 wrote on 8/21/2006, 3:16 PM
The link no longer shows the new Vegas 7 features.
“The curtain has been closed.”

Top of the list was “comprehensive XDCAM SD/HD”

XDCAM HD is looking like my future HD format of choice.

As I haven't seen the offical unofficial release I can only speculate on this.

But so far I've neither seen or heard anything on the grapevine that mentions 10bit support. Sad, very sad.

We were told BD authoring would be in DVDA4, anyone notice it?

So far I've not heard any feature mentioned that shouldn't have been in V6. Proper FULL XDCAM and MXF support should have been in V6.

By the time you throw an HD lens on it, why bother. You can purchase the new Panasonic HDX900 for 27,000 (not street) and get real Panasonic PROHD

What no new titling? Couldn't resist!
fldave wrote on 8/21/2006, 3:46 PM
I was actually looking for a new snazzy box/icon color. I see we get gray.

Finally someone else sees how good Vegas really is!

If it only ran on a MAC......

First I don’t want to use tape any more.
Second I don’t want to have to buy a HD deck just to spool my tape in.

You still would need to buy HD glass for the HDX900.
I used a SDX900 and it was outstanding – I’m sure the HDX900 follows suit.
If Pana would get hard drive or HDdisk recorder of some type on the HDX900, I would consider it.

ok, its gone. does someone have a copy of what was posted or can at least summarize it?
fldave wrote on 8/21/2006, 5:12 PM
Interesting, the web page changed to just the "enter your email address to be notified" form. They took off the details.

Anyway, "if" the improved HD previewing is related to a core program change from MS "Video For Windows" (VFW) technology to pure DirectX core, then I'd be happy. That "could" open up GPU acceleration, which most all of us would benefit.

Off the top of my head...

Vegas 7
- Full XDCAM Support
- Workflow Tools
- Render to iPod Compatible Formats
- Flexible window layout/docking options (preview window can be positioned above timeline)
- Unlimited Audio/Video Tracks
- 5.1 surround mixing tools
- Simultaneous preview and external monitor support
- Event Media marker and XDCam EssenceMark display
- I think a couple more...

DVDA 4
- DVD Scripting (games, etc. Does not appear to be .Net-type scripting)
- Keyframeable object transformations (looked like bezier motion paths)
- Buttons on video
- Definable loop point for menu animation
- Motion menus, buttons, and backgrounds

what can you add to perfection?
Coursedesign wrote on 8/21/2006, 9:19 PM
get real Panasonic PROHD

Interesting to see how many people still think that DVCPROHD looks better than XDCAM-HD at 35 Mbps.

It doesn't, not even close. There is a great difference in compression efficiency.

100 Mbps is a low bandwidth for intraframe compression of a HD signal, particularly a 1920x1080 signal.
Stonefield wrote on 8/21/2006, 11:10 PM
...I'd be happy if they added in at least ONE new filter. And not one that you had to get from the VAST page....
farss wrote on 8/22/2006, 12:33 AM
DVCPro HD isn't even 1440x1080, much less 1920x1080.
It's only advantage is lower CPU load for editing.
tumbleweed2 wrote on 8/22/2006, 12:52 AM
..no ones mentioned the new cooool looking box!... : )

does that make me shallow?...
jkrepner wrote on 8/22/2006, 7:00 AM
There is also new hardware support for AJA cards as well as simultaneous previews on preview window and external display.

There was also mention of a Cinescore plugin on the page before it went dark. I know someone mentioned on another post that it be cool if the Cinescore worked within Vegas. I guess it will.

I remember there is some new sort of marker tool for the time line, something about being able to more accurately align clips. I think it was blue.... if that helps.
