Avid codecs (mov files) - again ...

Werner_NOR wrote on 1/21/2022, 5:26 AM

I bought myself a new computer with 16 ram memory, 12 gb on the graphics card , 1 tb ssd disk etc

I have installed Movie Studio 17 Platinum and Vegas Studio 18 installed and usually take videos in mp4 format (1080 and 4k).

I also have Resolve 17 and Avid Media Composer First installed and they all work fine.

Since I like to change between editors I have used Avid DNXHD in a Mov container when I move between Vegas and Avid/Resolve 17 as an intermediate format. ProRes creates too big files for my liking.

In my VMS 17 the Quicktime plugin works fine and I can render too DNxHD (mov) without any problems, but not in Vegas Pro.

Quicktime is installed, legacy feature of Quicktime is enabled both in VMS 17 and in the Vegas Pro 18 program, but in Vegas Pro it doesnt work. It will not recognise the file format and it will not render in Quicktime. I should also mention that the files opens well in Sound Forge 15. The problem is only with my Vegas Pro 18.

Any suggestions?

It should work in VP 18, feel free to upload a sample file. Which version of Quicktime did you install?

You might try MagicYUV as an intermediate as well but it may or may not be smaller than ProRes (depends on what you are compressing and which settings of each type of file you are using).

I downloaded the MagicYUV trial to test and it worked very well in Vegas Pro. But I cannot use the file format in any of my other programs, so this format can only be used Vegas Pro editing for me.

I do not know my edition of Quicktime, but it is the latest.

I have uploaded an example of a file. Originally it was an mp4 file in 4K, but I rendered it DnxHD in mov format.

I found this on another post on the forum and this did the trick. Now mov-files and Quicktime rendering is available for me in Vegas Pro 18:

@Petr-Podlesak Hi, don't know what to say, is this how it's supposed to look?

try going to C:\Users\'your name'\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0, delete all those, Vegas will take a bit of time to load next time but it will rebuild all those files, I do this sometimes if a plugin doesn't show, hopefully it will reload whatever is stopping you importing this file,

This worked

Might as well mark your above reply as the solution!
