Avid DNxHD Codec Config

Sent a couple of 1080 DNxHD files off to MSNBC in NY and they had problems importing into their Avid. They reported only seeing the top half of the image. They play back fine on my local Quicktime player.

When I bring up the codec options configure box in Render As, (Vegas 8 and 9) it's almost impossible to see the bitrate options pulldown menu too.

Anybody else have this problem?

Don't know why MSNBC had problems with your footage on their their Avid.

Yes, the bitrate/quality settings dropdown menu has been screwed up in the DNxHD since day one and it has not been fixed.

I can tell you EXACTLY what happened.

You selected an interlaced codec, for progressive footage. Seen it twice before. Same problem both times. Last time was my editor working in FCP who gave me a 220x file when he should have given me a 175x file. Played fine for him, single field for me.

You're right, Perrone.

I obviously cannot change the source video (1080p/30) but would changing the project to 1080i from 1080p solve the problem?

Additionally, there are no 1080i / 29.97 options for that codec, just 1080i/59.94.

Tim, in the "Custom Settings" you can still set the Frame rate and the Field order to suit your progressive 30p footage.

DNxHD is a broadcast codec. And types that are not broadcast standards are not included. Also, you'll not that there is no 720x24.00. If you're prepping for film you're not going to use 720... so it's not there.

I keep the chart by my edit station just to be sure I don't walk myself into a crack.
