Avid FreeDV? ptui!

I just tried running the FREE Avid basic DV editor just released (a 43 mg download). Interesting but--I wandered around the Avid site and started reviewing all the features of Express DV, and then Express DV Pro. $1,700 for features I paid under $500 for? Hey. It's like realizing how beautiful your wife (or partner) really is, and putting away the fantasies of that cheerleader. Long live Vegas 4.

I have downloaded, but have not yet tried. The unfourtunate thing is they are giving it free, becuase it is so expensive and need the new customer base with all this competion. I need to learn it, to get some addtional work as people seem to think is is the knees bees of all software, old habits die hard. if I cam efrom a film background i might understand how it works. when I tried it once it kept sticking it fingers up at me and offering no help at all. A very unpleasant experience, no wonder you need training to learn it.

I will sit down now

I am completely new to Avid but have noted that the only sector of the digital economy that still seems to have a demand for qualified workers is in post-production editing. Knowing one more tool, espectially that one, can't hurt. The learning curve shouldn't be too bad IF you have experience figuring out which object Lara Croft has to pick up in order to get out of the burning castle.

Of course, the experience already makes me aware of how smooth and relatively intuitive the Vegas interface truly is. Forgive me, SonyFo! Forgive my straying thoughts!

I love how the Free Dv program only allows you to import Quicktime, JPEG or PICT files. Makes it even more useless for PC editing!
Might install it on my G4 though.

At IBC last month the only people apart from Apple running anything on the Apple platform were Avid.
Well that'a not entirely true, you had to register for the show on a Mac.

It's XP only. What a waste. Glad I bought a product from a company that knows people don't always spend $ on the latest windows update!

I downloaded it, and you can't even drag a clip around the timeline.(maybe there is a trick to that) Trimming-you have to hit the trim button then go to the trim window and put in the amount of frames you want to trim off the end. AAARRRRGGGH
Why cant you just grab the edge and pull back or forth.
I LOVE VEGAS!!!
