Avoiding crashes that involve freezing

David-Wilde wrote on 8/16/2025, 2:11 PM

I've been using Vegas Pro 22 and have developed a notion that the fairly frequent crashes i used to get which resulted after the software froze up, were all due to overloading the data processing system. I do a lot of complicated, overlapping FX which puts a lot of data into the system provoking that spinning wheel that indicates the system has been backed up with its processing. Even tho i have a very fast computer, i now let that spinning wheel close before doing any more editing and since i have been doing that, it hasn't frozen up.

Curious as to what is a "very fast computer". Your user profile has no information. Also, which build of VP22 are you using? What overlapping FX are you using?

Reyfox - thanks for mention of no info in my profile of my current computer. i just did that:

Reyfox - The VP22 build 250.

I may do a lot of various FX often animated simultaneously on one event and stack them on multiple tracks. Too many variations to list and i didn't note where i was when the crashes used to occur.

Reyfox, your asking about build # made me wonder if the recent lack of crashes is more about improvements to Vegas functioning than about my idea of waiting for the activity wheel to stop turning. Maybe both.

@David-Wilde thanks for the computer update! Now, copy/paste into your Signature in your User Profile. Like mine in my Signature. I know for me, if there are issues, one of the first pieces of info I look for is what the computer hardware is.

I may do a lot of various FX often animated simultaneously on one event and stack them on multiple tracks. Too many variations to list and i didn't note where i was when the crashes used to occur.

Are you using Adjustment Events? The reason I ask about what FX you are using, yes, some do take a bit of time to work, but I've never had a crash using Boris, Ignite, NBFX, or Sapphire along with native Vegas effects. The computer may not play back the timeline at full speed unless I change the Preview, but no crashing.

Vegas is constantly being improved. The video rendering engine is being reworked, along with the usual bug fixes (and sometimes, creation of them!), but overall, I can edit for hours without any issues. And I tend to use as many keyboard shortcuts that my one brain cell can remember to speed up the editing process.

Open one of your Event Pan/Crop with your effects and take a screenshot and add it to your post. You can upload (attach it) by clicking on the blue up arrow to the left of the smiley face above.
