Back to 9.0b for me...

CorTed wrote on 10/30/2009, 7:19 PM
I hit on this issue as soon as I downloaded and installed the update for 9.0c. But the problem now made me return to 9.0b. (posted in previous post)
Here is the issue. When you put a large jpeg on the time line (mine was 2496x1664) and try to use the event crop to crop the picture, the program will at some point in the crop blank the picture on the time line/preview and disappear? I can actually move the crop in and out and the pic will appear and disappear.
I'm surprised no one else has seen or noticed this, but reverting back to 9.0b seems to fix this issue.
They did something with the pan/crop that I hope they will fix soon.

Ted - I'm not seeing this behavior in 9.0c. Using jpeg same size 2496 x 1664 at 72 dpi. Pan/crop does not effect timeline thumbnail image. Preview image reflects pan/crop as normal. Running 9.0c 64 bit version under Vista 64. - Paul

Thanks for the post Paul.
I have many of these pics in the project, and it only seems to do it to some of them.
Not sure why, but what I do know is that when I reverted back to 9.0b, that issue on the problem pics went away completely.
Seems to me something has changed in that area from b to c.

Something for you to try. Put the cursor on the picture so it is the preview window, then use the pan/crop to zoom in and out slowly and watch the preview display. When I do this on certain pics, it blanks the screen to black during the pan/crop.

edit: running on 9.0c Vista 64 bit

Ted, I can't repro this either.
I just dropped 100 jpegs (2896 x 1944) on the timeline and tried it with several of them.

Mike, Thanks for testing this for me.
I'm not sure why it is happening to me at this point.
Wondering why the problem went away after re-loading 9.0b?

Tried again...still can't repro .. if it's just certain jpegs seems like a media problem unless other users have the same issue.

can't repro it either....

why not simply change them to .png? never have any problems with them....

Did you create the project in 9b? I just brought a 9b project up in a 9c update with 4288x2848x24 JPEGs. I exported sequences to 1080 M2V and noticed video drop outs. Went back to timeline and found red frames. Some red frames had no preview of the JPEGs and some did. Some (not all) said "Media Offline". I checked the paths given in the properties and all the media is there.

Are you getting red frames? I suspect I need to refresh the thing somehow...

Like ushere said, try ".png". For some weird reason, ".jpg" files eat up RAM and maybe there is even a memory leak (on Task Manager as I play through the timeline to the point where a ".jpg" clip is, I see the memory use go up but not back down). I've seen red frames when the memory use gets very high. So I guess whether you get red frames or not can depend how much memory is available (for beaing eaten up..). That might be why not everyone gets the same problem.

I had the same problem with V9c 64bit showing some jpegs as red frames and pan/cropped stills disappearing. Changing the stills to .png caused them to show on the timeline, but they still disappear when previewed. I opened the same project in V9c 32bit and everything is fine. Apparently, there is a difference in the 32 and 64 bit versions rendering still images. I am running Vista 64.

I also just went back to 9b 64.

I have a project with a graphic properties of: 3840x2160x24, JPEG and it would show as red frames. Loaded it into Adobe and saved in BMP and still the same. Interesting thing is all graphics after it on the timeline were also red frames.

If I do a Ripple and move the graphics after it to the right on the timeline and then a Ctrl+Z to move them back they would no longer be red. The one graphic would still be red though. It is like Vegas sees the first graphic it can't work with and then forgets about all the rest of them but this trick does not always work and if I try it twice the other graphic will turn red again.

What a mess!

9c install was had errors as well. Said it ended pre-maturely.

Aparently 9c 64 needs more work! I have not tried the 32 bit version.

Using Windows 7 64 bit.

With the errant install and this now and then problem with the graphics the only safe thing to do was go back to 9b 64. Problem with this now and then thing it makes it extremely difficult to reproduce.

Looks like we went back to the old days of red frames again. :(

Did they use something 'old' to fix the new bugs and restore the old bugs by doing so?

I love Vegas but this 'bug' circus with each upgrade is getting quite old!!!

Whatever...

I found that the 9c update did not fix the avi render selection crash on my system. I completely uninstalled 9 and the reinstalled the complete new downloaded 9c version and it now works. Something you might consider.

I also am having this problem with V9c 64 bit, except it is with a 1280x720 png. It shows as red frames in 64 bit. The veg opens fine in V9c 32 bit. I am running Vista 64.

EDIT: to my surprise when I moved my project with 720p60 AVCHD footage to the 32 bit V9c I found it previewed my footage MUCH more smoothly than the 64 bit does. I wonder if only the 32 bit AVCHD libraries were updated in 9c.

Since version 8 , also noticed upgrading better not done but instead uninstalling fully first and then fully re-install the newer version.

I know it's an old thread, but I'm now having the same problems as the OP.

When simply trying to pan or crop, I get a black screen and the picture "disappears" as if it were not there.

Vegas 9c on Win 7-64.

The specific images were jpg, and I will try to convert them to png to see if it goes away.

My third version of Vegas... and I can't believe this is happening....
Jay Gladwell wrote on 2/11/2010, 9:31 AM

Based on this and similar threads, it appears there are some issues with the 64-bit version that aren't plaguing those with the 32-bit version.

Truly unfortunate.

Rv6tc,

This is a known issue that occurs when combining AVCHD and certain still images on the timeline of Vegas Pro 9.0c 64-bit, and we're working to correct it. We apologize for the inconvenience.

In the meantime, workarounds include:
-Rendering still images to a video format (such as AVI)
-Rendering AVCHD footage to an intermediate format (such as AVI)
-Working in the 32-bit version of 9.0c
-Working in 9.0b

Thanks.

ForumAdmin, thank you. This is a most welcome update and I hope we'll see more of this here.

Forum Admin,

Thank you for the response. I appreciate it and will try what you suggested.

I had the exact same problem with the 64 bit version. Now I am having to render in the 32 bit version if I have a jpeg or PNG file that is doing this. It is very sporadic and unpredictable but has happened in my projects since 9.0c. Definite bug - but this has already been reported.

ForumAdmin-- any ideas when 9d is coming out to resolve this bug? I don't want to pay $29 for a support package just to find that out. :-)

Thx,
