Backgrounds for videos

Is it possible to record myself in my house and then just get the image of myself (my body, movement and all) and put it on a background of my choice? I find I will be very limited on my locations if I just use my house for my videos.

Also, are there backgrounds available for doing such work?

And can this be done with Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum? Thanks.

Yes, this technique/effect is called 'chromakey'. You need to film yourself against a wall that is uniformly coloured (usually flashy green or marina blue), and then apply the chromakey effect. This will make the green background transparent, and you'll be able to replace it with any other background (still image or video).

Yes, as mentioned .. it called 'chromakey' ... it's easy to do .. but hard to to well.

You can use most any color for the background ... just so long as it is NOT in your subject (skin tone, eyes, clothes) It's best to have an evenly lit background as possible.

Ivan, thanks a lot. After reading your post I found a 'how to' on "youtube" for Chroma Keyer. If anyone else needs it, go to .....
