Backlight correction, help!

I am new to Vegas and I am trying to save a hardly backlighted clip. here is a snapshot.

I tried color curves but I got a dull image. Is there anything like photoshop's hilight/shadows correction in vegas?

how do you correct this?

Try this magic....
duplicate the image on a track above the existing track. Click on the little filmclip icon (compositing mode) and select "SCREEN" mode. Your image will suddenly show the underexposed area quite nicely.

The guy's sillouette should be screened while the rest should be multiplied in composite mode. How can do this?
