Backup & saving clips to folders

Is there a way to have vegas backup the vegas project file every few minutes. I see there is an option for backup .veg files, but where does it put them????

Also is there an easier way to select the folder that captured clips go to other than selecting it under options --> Preferances --> Disk managment every time???

By default Vegas makes an "automatic" save every five minutes of your project file. This by default is placed in the temp folder specified under Prefrences/General under options at the very bottom of the window. You can change the location if you wish. This save is protection in the event your have a system crash. Vegas is smart enough to delete this file automatically IF you save and exit normally since then obviously this "emergency" recovery file isn't needed.

On top of that Vegas can make a backup file. This is a seperate save and isn't deleted. Personally, I like to use 'save_as' every ten minutes or so or when I've made made extensive changes using what I call generation saves. Example myfilea, myfileb, myfilec and so on. This saves my butt if I do something dumb and want to return to an earlier version. At best I never loose more than a few minutes work.

I save .veg files on two different physical drives. The alternative if there's a crash is to start over and recreate many many hours of work.

editor3333: you bet! One of my hard disks just died yesterday and I since it's the disk where I keep all my programs and veg files on (my OS is on another drive), I lost everything... next time, I'm saving all my veggies on TWO different drives
( *%#@+ !!! )
Ok ciao, I got a FEW things to re-install now...

Hey editor 3333 -
I had an awful crash last month - and totally recovered
check this out - it may help...

Search the Vegas forum for "Recovering Lost files and drives"
It's my story of crash and recovery.

Happy you, seems your drive was still spinning...
Mine came back to life for a few seconds yesterday but went back to "RIP state" before I could spell "save these files!". And this, with the "blaming message" from Windows: "you unplugged your drive without shuting off your machine, you shouldn't do that, blah blah blah...", which I did NOT do, of course; it shut down by itself!
But I suspect something now: could it be another strange behavior from my motherboard? I'm going to try my drive on a friend's computer tonight just to be sure it's really dead and if it spins on his system, I'm gonna look (***AGAIN***) at this ABIT mobo. If it's the culprit, I'll possibly try my press-drill and play frisbee with it after. Damn it. This board has been a "Jack in the box" since I got it.
Meanwhile, if any of you get any idea, you *really* are welcomed! :)

Here's the ultimate last ditch possiblity - but not until everything else has failed and you are ready to destroy the drive (not a joke).
First try other computer and all other solutions.
When Everything has Failed, hook up another hard drive (for rescue) and start the computer. If your bad drive ain't spinning, lift it about 1/2" off of the desk and drop it. This will definitely destroy the drive, but often will get it spinning for one last try - if so, don't hesitate, transfer.
Then send the drive back to the manufacturer if it's still under warantee...
good luck.
