i have been useing vegas audio for about a year now and i have been
backing up my projects by burning data to cd. the other day i upgraded
my hard drive to a ultra 160 scsi. i went to open an old vegas project
from a data cd i had made, vegas comes up with a message saying the
following file could not found in specified location. and then there are
some options asking to look for it, or keep it off line. it cant find it
because it isnt there! the only thing that got backed up to cd was the
vegas files like, vol. envelopes, pan. envelopes, level settinge, pan
settings, project data only,( no audio files ). the audio files for thease
projects were stored in another place on the hard drive and did not get
burned to backup. and now with my new hard drive i have lost them all.

How can i backup multitrack audio and project date to cd?
or shuold i just get a dvd ram burner and record to this?
open for ideas.

Ouch! Sorry you lost your data. Vegas saves all its associated data files in the C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Vegas folder by default even if you save the .veg files containing your edits to another location. My recommendation is to create a directory for each project you do and then direct Vegas to save to that directory in the project properties dialog box--before you start recording data. Then you will have all the files you need in one place place to save to CD.

The properties dialog allows you to set either global defaults or unique file locations for each new project. It's a good system once you get used to it. - Doug
