It's actually true, of course - the more separate "hairs" you can get between the wind and your mic the better.

On the other hand, for those really "special" effects, may I recommend:

For recording punk music, make your windjammer spiky with gel, dye it green or purple, and pierce the mic lead with a nail.

For reggae, give your windjammer dreadlocks and breathe ganja smoke into it

And of course, for recording urban thrash metal, shave it completely
