Bad upgrading process 19 to 20 - what is going on?

McGmCgMcG wrote on 10/24/2022, 8:00 AM

Hi all,

I got a notification to upgrade from 19 to 20. Great! I chose to install. At the very end there was a window which simply said "Remove Product". Now, obviously I do not want to remove Vegas so I exited the screen without clicking 'Remove'.

Now it appears the programme doesn't actually upgrade itself? It simply installed Vegas 20, so I now have two Vegas products on my PC. That's not very good. Anyway, I clicked on Vegas 20 and received the error: You have reached the maximum allowed number of simultaneously usable devices for this program. You can easily activate the software for this device through the MAGIX Service Center.

Well, I went to the Service Center and there doesn't seem to be an intuitive way to get this working. And to receive support from the team will take an estimated 2-4 days?! What?!

I am so disheartened by this process because it is counter-intuitive and support is lacking. Please, forum, explain to me like I am give years old how to get this working! I just want to edit videos with Vegas 20!

Thanks for reading!

Did you buy your software from Magix?. VP19 & VP20 are different versions and both can live on pc. No problem there. Both have different serial numbers. From memory you only need to remove an old Vegas is when applying an update to say VP19 build 550 to 643.This is done automatically during update and you do get a chance to back out. VP20 from VP19 is an upgrade/new installation not an update. Magix will have sent yo a new serial for 20. Maybe in spam folder.

A little OT but can we presume VP19 was performing well and you decided to spend a few more $$ and upgrade to 20 without first downloading a trial and testing.

On this laptop, I have versions 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20. All versions are independent of each other so if you had 19 installed and then installed 20, yes - you'll now have 19 and 20 installed. If you want, you can always just uninstall 19 through Windows.

I bought a year's subscription via the Magix website for Vegas. I assumed that included when the software is upgraded, a subscription would mean I also get to use the latest software. I did not receive a new serial, there is nothing in my spam folder either.

I can't use 20 though, I get this error when I open it:

Try your Magix Service Center account and see what devices are registered there under this serial for which version: https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/

For 365 you may have to unregister 19 (under the help menu) to register 20, but can easily unregister 20 and register 19 if you choose to go back to it.

@McGmCgMcG, are you installing 20 on a different machine? If yes, you need to deactivate on the old machine. Or you can log into your account at vegascreativesoftware.com, remove all activations, and then activate 20 on this machine. The 365 serial number can only be used on one machine.

Nope, same machine!

Here is what I see:

Should I click Deactivate under Vegas Pro 19 and then try to activate my local installation of 20?

What a messy process, Magix sort it out!!

And thank you for your help!

Make sure you're using the VEGAS Edit 365 serial number when activating VEGAS Pro 20.

Open 19, go to the help menu and select deactivate. Then try to activate in 20. It may limit you to one version on one computer at a time for 365.

Thank you both, it worked!

This was such a badly thought out process though! Unintuitive. Even when I look at your comments and try to respond, when I click Quote it needs me to sign in again..cool, I sign in, it doesn't bring me back to this thread! It brings me to my dashboard!!! Magix, you need to employ User Researchers!

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help!

Glad you got it to work. I can understand that was frustrating!
