Bakup to spare hard drive sloooooow.

Hello all

My Video store disk is at 87%.
I recently purchased a 3TB drive to back up my video store disk for offline storage.

I'm trying to backup my Video disk and it starts out at a very brisk 60+Mbs then after a few seconds it slows down to 2Mbs and eventually crawls to 500Kbs with occasional jumps back to 2Mbs. At this rate it will take days to back up the drive. I wanted to do a file copy rather than using a backup program because I don't want to deal with having to use the same backup software to extract files I might need. At least with file copy I can use windows to view and restore files as I need them.

My system:

Windows 10 pro
4x1TB drives

HD 1 System
HD 2 Three partitions
Page file
System Image Store
Temp Store
HD 3 Video Work Disk
HD 4 Video/Misc Store

Procedure:
With the computer off I removed the cables for HD 3 "Video work Disk" and plugged in the 3TB drive. Started the computer and Initialized and formatted the HD with default settings. I select the files to back up and copy.

Question, Is there any way to speed up this process or will I have to use backup software.

Thanks
John P.

John,
I highly recommend using Macrium Reflect, free backup software. I made an image of my 314 GB drive in just over an hour! It was showing 600 MB/sec during the copy.
