Band of brothers?

Here's a question might be kind of dumb but does anybody know how you could get an effect that could sort of resemble the way Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan type of war effect. The way that they shoot the film that makes it look grainy and kind of greyed and smokey. Or is that done with lenses or high speed cameras or something else. Is that possible?

Have you played with the Film Effects filters? You can add grain there. You can use the HSL filter to reduce saturation to whatever level you like, although the Film Effects filters have some preset options for this as well.

Not sure how to simulate the effect in Vegas Video. However, when they shoot the footage they usually throttle the actual frame rate of the camera. So they would shoot the intensive moments of the battle sequence at 15-20 frames per second. When played back on at films native 24fps you get that effect. Not sure how I'd go about achieving the effect in Vegas, but I hope knowing how it was traditionally done might assist you in some way.

I have experimented with shooting DV on my VX2000 in Sony's progressive scan mode(full frames at 15fps in the case of the Vx2000 with playback at NTSC 29.97fps). Importing the footage into VV at NTSC frame rates you can get a simular effect. However, I am certain there is probably an easy way to edit some footage after the fact though.
