You can apply the same transition to the text event as to the video event and they should sync together. Alternatively, you could add text to an untransitioned event, render that section to a new .avi file, then bring that new file in and add the transition.

So far, Vegas' built in text capabilities have satisified all my needs except for 3D titles. For those i usually use Micrografx Simply 3D.
