basic set-up

OK - video gurus. I am new to video capturing/editing, but versed in audio production & Vegas.

I was wondering if anyone could offer some suggestions for the equipment I would need to get a basic, entry-level (but not sorry stuff) set-up going to load videos (8mm, VHS, etc.) into Vegas for basic editing & audio alignment. I currently have all the audio gear necessary, but have no video interface. I can't tell you what budget I'm on because I know nothing about the cost of such gear. Just want some decent, basic stuff to start with (and that I could grow with). Please give me a general idea of what the going rate is for such equipment also (about how much can I expect to spend just to get started?)

Thanks in advance for the info.

Hi-

If it were me, I would buy the best digital camera I could afford that also has analog input/output. $600 and up (I think).

Otherwise, the Canopus ADVC-100 does analog to digital conversion & back. ($300?)

I have also seen people use some sort of Dazzle (brand) device. I am unsure of the cost/quality, but is probably the least expensive of the ones I mentioned.

The Dazzle DVBridge is the gadget and it runs about $300 as well.
